QuickNote from the Principal
A Quick Note from Mrs. Waters......
September 9, 2010
Dear Parents, We are off to a great start! The first week of school is already behind us. It has been a great week, and next week will be even better. We are so glad you are with us at CCS, and we consider it an honor to take part in the education of your child. Today you will be receiving a current calendar. You will notice that there are more activities included on the new calendar, so it might be a good idea to throw the old ones away in order to avoid confusion. We have also included a copy of the letter that I posted on the website, so that if you did not have a chance to read it, you can look it over and see a bit more of what my vision is for CCS, and see the wonderful things God is doing.
1. The carpool lane is open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 3:35 p.m.
At all other times, you need to come into the school building to pick up or drop off your child. If you would like to use the carpool lanes and DID NOT receive a carpool number, please call the office and leave a message for Mr. Peter Nguyen. You do not need a carpool number to use the morning carpool lanes.
2. The younger grades have a snack every morning and afternoon.
You should pack an extra snack in their lunch box for the morning. For the afternoon snack, you can pack an extra snack or purchase a snack from us. (Drinks and food items are .25 or .50 cents). Check with the ELC director, Mr. Peter Nguyen, about setting up a snack account for your child.
3. The Friday Lunch program will begin on October 1. We will alternate between Domino’s Pizza one week and Chik Fil A the next.
(Chik Fil A and Domino’s $4.00). Drinks and a side will be provided. A sign up sheet will be provided in your child’s Friday Folder the week before it is due so that you can place your order and pay in advance.
4. Our Special Subjects Classes start next week.
We are so pleased to be offering Spanish, Music, Computer and P.E. classes this year. We know that these classes are very important, and we are blessed with wonderful teachers who love to teach these subjects.
5.Piano Lessons.
Mrs. Thomas will be offering private piano lessons during the 2010-2011 school year in the music room at CCS. Lessons begin Tuesday, September 14. Only three remaining lesson times are available. Please contact Mrs. Thomas directly at lmsthomas89@gmail.com for information about this wonderful program, which she will be administering separately from the CCS office this year.
6. Kick-off for our Fall Fund-raiser is Tuesday, September 21.
(Assembly at 9:00 a.m.) This year we want to be completely transparent about our fund-raising progress and purpose. We will report all of this information to you in the upcoming Quick Notes so that you can be informed of our progress. The Fund-raiser ends on October 5.
7. We will begin our Chapel program on Wednesday, September 15.
Students should wear regular uniforms, except for Honor Roll Chapel, picture day and/or special field trips. For additional information, please see the Uniform Guidelines (information is in our lobby and on our website), or call the office at 703-971-0558.
8. Plan to attend our Back-to-School Night on Thursday, September 16, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Parents, this is a time for YOU to talk to the classroom teacher, special subject teacher, ELC Director and office staff. Each classroom teacher will talk about his/her expectations and the responsibilities of the students. The teacher will also give you information about helping your child succeed in the classroom. We do encourage you to leave your children at home for this evening.
9. Parent/Teacher Conference Day is scheduled for Friday, October 8.
This conference is scheduled for the end of the Interim period instead of the end of the nine week grading period in an attempt to help bring up any low academic or character development scores before report cards are issued. School is closed for students on this day.
10. Uniform Picture Day is October 27
(Packets will be sent home closer to the date). Individual & Group pictures will be taken at this time. This is a “Dress Uniform Day” for all students.
For a Christ-centered Education,
Pamela A. Waters, Principal
